In the first of these exhibitions, Yamanashi Jewelry from the Past to the Present, we exhibit about forty examples of Yamanashi jewelry. They illustrate the birth of this jewelry industry in the Meiji drive for “Civilization and Enlightenment,” its continuing progress amidst the ups and downs of the twentieth century and the start of the twenty-first, and the great variety of experiments that designers and craftsmen are currently engaged in to make jewelry a more familiar part of life. They will be accompanied by a chronology detailing events in the history of Yamanashi jewelry and its historical context, with photographs and other materials. The exhibition is designed to inspire visitors to imagine where the Yamanashi jewelry in the future.
The second exhibition in the series (scheduled to open in the fall of 2015) will address coordinating jewelry to suit the individual wearing it as well as the time, place, and occasion, and proposals for ways to incorporate jewelry into daily life.
The third exhibition (scheduled to open in the fall of 2016) will focus on changes in jewelry reflecting fashion trends.
